Raspberry protest Sunday 17 July 2011.
The municipality of Arilje is depending on the export of raspberries. The people depending directly or indirectly on the sale of raspberries is estimated at 300.000. This year however the raspberry price has been surprisingly low, which of course is a huge concern for the local farmers. They have no choice but to accept the ridiculous price for their raspberries, otherwise they would not receive any money at all.
A demonstration against the low raspberry price was held on Sunday the 17th of july in the city center. The people of Arilje gathered to show their annoyance and jounalists of the national TV were present to catch the moment. But only a few hundred people showed up instead of the thousands expected. A howl of agreement came from the crowd after a few fierce speeches. Even as an outstander I could not help but feeling touched by the moment. Let’s hope the protest was helpful and the raspberry price will raise soon.
Protest nezadovoljnih malinara, Nedelja 17. Jul
Opština Arilje zavisi od izvoza maline. Broj ljudi koji direktno ili indirektno zavise od prodaje maline se procenjuje na oko 300.000. Ove godine je, međutim, otkupna cena maline iznenađujuće niska, što je naravno velika briga za lokalne farmere. Narod nema drugog izbora nego da prihvati smešnu otkupnu cenu malina, inače bi ostali i bez tog minimalnog prihoda.
Demonstracije protiv niske otkupne cene su se održale u Nedelju 17. Jula u centru grada. Ariljci su se okupili da iskažu svoje nezadovoljstvo, a novinari nacionalne televizije su našli za shodno da proprate događaj. Nažalost, okupilo se samo nekoliko stotina ljudi umesto očekivanih nekoliko hiljada. Uzvici podrške su se mogli čuti iz gomile posle nekoliko zapaljivih govora. Iako samo posmatrač, nisam mogla ostati ravnodušna na ovaj prizor. Nadajmo se da će protest imati odjeka i da će se cena maline povećati uskoro.
